Kamrup(M) DC bans earth-cutting

GUWAHATI, April 27: Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Dr. M Angamuthu has ordered an immediate ban on earth-cutting and carrying of earth from May 1, 2016 till the end of the monsoon season in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner has also directed all departments concerned, including enforcement agencies like revenue circle officers, district police, Forest Department, PWD, Transport Department, planning and regulatory bodies like GMC,GMDA, Panchayat functiories etc., not to permit any earth cutting and earth filling activity in the hilly terrains, water bodies and in low-lying areas of the district.

The DC has also directed that no earth-cutting should be allowed from May 1, 2O16 till the monsoon season is over even if any permission has been procured from the regulatory authorities like GMDA, GMC for any construction activity. The DC has further directed not to allow carrying of earth procured after hill cutting.

The DC said that all departments concerned and regulatory bodies would take steps to review the permission accorded, if any, during the current year and take steps to cancel those permissions forthwith in the vulnerable areas prone to landslides and flash floods considering the present risk and vulnerability in the hilly terrains, water bodies and low-lying areas in the district.
