Karbi bodies want a Karbi as HAD Minister

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 26: A number of Karbi organizations today appealed to Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to induct a Karbi MLA as Hill Area Development (HAD) Minister in his Cabinet and ensure implementation of Article 244(A) on the Constitution of India.

244(A) on the Constitution of India states all about formation of an autonomous State comprising certain tribal areas in Assam and creation of local Legislature or Council of Ministers or both.

In a statement issued to the press today, leaders of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Karbi Students’ and Youth Council (KSYC), Karbi Unemployed Youth Association (KUYA), Karbi Anglong Indigenous Youth Association (KAIYA), All Karbi Youth Union (AKYU) and the Karbi Farmers’ Association (KFA) said that Karbi Anglong continued to lag behind in so far as development and education are concerned. “Several issues like implementation of Article 244(A) of the Constitution of India and the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between the UPDS and the Central Government have not been materialized even after promise by the Government. We hope that the new government at Dispur led by Sarbanda Sonowal as the Chief Minister will bring smile on the faces of people of Karbi Anglong by implementing Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India and the MoS signed between the UPDS and the Central Government.
