Karbis hold Domahi Festival at Samata

DIMORIA, April 30: In order to keep their distinct identity intact by keeping their own culture alive, the Karbis of the State been doing a whole lot of cultural activities, involving their traditiol sports and cuisines.

The two-day Domahi Festival of the Karbis comprising their traditiol sports and cuisines concluded at the Karbi Cultural Complext at Samata near here today. The festival began yesterday.

In the face of cultural onslaught from the West and rest of India, the Karbis have largely been able to preserve a number of their traditiol games like Dhop Khel, Ghila Khel, Koita Khel, Me Kilap, tug of war, Lathi Dolia (something like javelin throw). A lot of such traditiol sports were played yesterday. A large number of Karbis took part in the Domahi Kikan contest on the concluding day today. Over 2,000 people who gathered at the event today gave their taste buds a treat with traditiol Karbi cuisines.
