GUWAHATI, March 27: Nrityangan, a registered classical Kathak dance institute, is going to hold a Kathak dance competition, Nrityangi, at Tirthath Bhawan, Nijarapar in Guwahati on April 22. The programme will also witness a Kathak evening – Dharohar— recalling the Guru-Shishya parampara. Addressing the media in Guwahati Press Club today, Delhi DD artiste Hemanta Kumar Kalita said: “The programme is being organized so as to make Kathak popular in the State the way the popularity of the Bihu dance in the State is. One of the immediate aims of this programme is to popularize the State artistes associated with this classical dance form. Guru-Shishya Parampara that had been prevalent in the Satya Yug is on the verge of extinction now. We’re here to revive that practice.” State ADGP R Chandrathan, Barpeta DC Thaneswar Malakar, Cultural Affairs Director Debaprasad Mishra and others will remain present as guests at the function.
