Kidpping: A money-minding business in State!

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 19: Who have all along been holding the people of Assam to ransom? If militants and miscreants are to be blamed for such a situation in the State, the government in the State is not the one that should shrug its responsibility off the situation.

Kidpping has been on the rise in Assam, scaling a new height every year. It seems that there is no government at Dispur. Official records on this count from 2006 to 2015 which The Sentinel is equipped with has proved beyond doubt that militants and miscreants have the upper hand over the State police force or security personnel deployed in the State.

According to records of the Assam Police, the number of kidpping cases registered in all the police stations in the State in 2006 was 1818, that rose to 1893 in 2007, 2219 in 2008, 2719 in 2009, 3250 in 2010, 3785 in 2011, 3812 in 2012, 4831 in 2013, 5378 in 2014 and 6103 in 2015.

The number of kidpping cases in the past one decade in the State shows that the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the State had no effective strategy to arrest the mece during the period. From a chief minister who ruled the State for consecutive 15 years, one has every reason to expect him of rising to the occasion when the people of the State are held to ransom by militants or miscreants. However, the Congress government in the State has utterly failed to tackle the mece and let it become a ‘money-minting business’ in the State.
