GUWAHATI, August 13: The BJP Assam Pradesh and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) have condemned the attack on common people in Tinsukia by ULFA(S) yesterday and at Rongbongway in Karbi Anglong by the KPLT. The APCC has blamed it on the State Government.

In a statement issued to the press today, APCC in-charge president and MP Ripun Bora said: “Despite the police having tip-off on insurgent activities in the run-up to the Independence Day, such incidents took place as the government at Dispur failed to act promptly. The State Home Department fell short of being alert the way it should have been after the recent incident in Kokrajhar. Does the BJP government want to provide security to the people of the State only through press statements? We condemn both the incidents that took place yesterday as such attacks won’t serve any purpose. We caution all concerned to stop this bloodbath. We demand Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to admit publicly that the killings occurred because of failure on the part of his government that keeps on giving assurance to the public of providing them security through transparent and able administration.”

Bora prayed for early recovery of those injured in the two attacks. In another statement, the BJP Assam Pradesh condemned the two attacks. “At a time when the State Government is busy for the development of the State, such incidents will only put hurdles in the path of development of the State. This is an attempt by some vested interests in order to put hurdles before the process of forming the greater Assamese society. This is an act of cowardice,” said state BJP spokespersons Rupam Goswami, Bijon Mohajan and Jayanta Mallah Baruah in a statement.

Ministers Atul Bora and Pallab Lochan Das and party leaders visited 11-Bamungaon in Tinsukia district and took stock of the situation. They paid Rs 5 lakh against each of the killed.
