GUWAHATI, June 24: The Krishak-Sramik Unyan Parishad, Assam (KSUPA) has questioned the BJP Assam Pradesh as to how it has allowed corrupt Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang to join the party when the party-led government at Dispur has been conducting a crackdown against corruption in the State, soon after coming to power.
The KSUPA today lodged an FIR with the CID against the KAAC CEM for his alleged swindling of Rs 4.50 crore meant for an AIBP scheme in fiscal 2014-15. The CEM is accused of swindling the funds meant for the AIBP scheme at Ringkaniham village between Jengkha and Kheroni in Karbi Anglong district. Earlier on June 7 this year, the KSUPA had filed a case (203/16) against Ronghang in Dispur police station against the alleged swindling of a total of Rs 546.93 crore meant for irrigation schemes funded by the Ministry of DoNER and through the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR). This apart, the KSUPA alleged that from 2011-15 the KAAC had taken as many as 42 AIBP schemes, but there are no works done at the sites of the schemes.
Talking to newsmen in the city today, KSUPA president Pradip Kalita said: "Tuliram Ronghang as the CEM of the KAAC has been looting the hill district. We've filed cases against him and let Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal also aware of his corruption. The BJP spoke aloud against corruption by the Congress in the past 15 years in the State. It promised to the people of Assam that it would put an end to corruption in the State after coming to power. However, just for the sake of power the party has unrolled a red carpet for the corrupt KAAC CEM to induct him into the party fold. This is shameful for the people of Assam. We condemn such an act of the BJP. Morning shows the day. From the very beginning, the BJP in Assam has shown that it's a party that patroges corruption. By embracing Tuliram Rongang, who has heaped property worth Rs 200 crore in Guwahati and Diphu, the BJP has proved it beyond doubt that it's not free from corruption."
Kalita further said: "We'll resort to protest the BJP welcoming corrupt Tuliram Ronghang and against the party."
