Kukis celebrate Chavang Kut

GUWAHATI, Nov 15: The Kuki community of Guwahati celebrated Chavang Kut, a post-harvest festival, at the BKB Auditorium, Gauhati University with much fanfare and gaiety, a press release said. Recently, the State Government declared Chavang Kut as a restricted holiday in Assam.

There was display of traditiol dance, cultural dress parade and exhibition of other cultural parapherlia. Renowned folk singer Jimmy Lamboi enthralled the crowd with his legendary numbers.

Dr Vangjapao Singson, former Director of Health Services, graced the occasion as Kut Pa and Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University was the Guest of Honour.

Veineinem Singson, who was Miss galand 2014, Miss Jewel Queen – North East 2016, Mapurram Miss Queen East 2016 and Miss Hattinneng, Miss galand 2010 were also felicitated at the event.

The event was organized by the Kuki Welfare Assocaiton, Guwahati.
