GUWAHATI, June 25: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia has drawn the attention of Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to the repeated attempts for encroachment being made from the other side of the inter-State border with galand. The CLP leader also let the Governor and the Chief Minister know the indefinite fast which Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has been from June 24. In a missive each sent to the Governor and the Chief Minister today, Saikia said that the Mariani MLA had been on a fast since Saturday last in protest against the persistent silence by Dispur over the content of the agreement signed between the Centre and the galand Government.     “Kurmi is seeking to highlight attempts of a section of residents of galand to encroach upon various inter-State border areas, including Geleki, Merapani, ginijan and Uriamghat. Some of these incursions resulted in the death of both police personnel and civilians. Moreover, since there is a growing conviction among the affected residents of Assam the encroachers have been emboldened by a secret pact to hand over specific areas of the State to galand. Kumri wants the details of the agreement between the Centre and the ga leadership to be made available in public domain,” Saikia said in his letters. Kurmi, according to the letters, has requested Dispur to take up the issue with the Government of India without further delay for the interest of the State.
