Kuzur to join Congress with 74 other leaders

GUWAHATI, Sept 15: At a time when most of the influential student and youth leaders in the State have inclined to the BJP, a large number of leaders of the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) are set to join the Congress.

In the recent past, a number of student and youth leaders, including former AJYCP president Manoj Baruah, have joined the BJP and former All Assam Students’ Union president Sankar Prasad Roy and general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi are set to join the Saffron party soon.

Meanwhile, AASAA president Raphael Kuzur is set to join the Congress with as many as 74 other leaders and cadres of various ranks and files. The some of the AASAA leaders set to join the Congress are AASAA education secretary Raja Kuzur, AASAA’s Tinsukia district chief adviser Bhimsen Kuzur, former adviser Joseph Munda, Digboi regiol committee’s former president Wilson Hechha, Kakopathar Anchalik Parishad president Peter Kharia, Morigaon district adviser gen Orang and others.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta said: “The party will get a boost when the AASAA leaders join it. Now we can make deep into the Adivasi community in the State. Leaders of other student and youth bodies are also going to join us step by step.”
