GUWAHATI, Oct 26: Lakshmi Puja was observed in different parts of the State today in a splendid way with religious fervor. The people of the state asked for the grace of the goddess for the whole year today.
Along with the rest of the State, Guwahati too worshipped the Goddess of Wealth with pomp and gaiety. In Lakshmi Mandir situated in Beltola area of the city, which have completed 68 years, the puja was observed with a day long programme of am-prasanga by local women. Interestingly, this year, the Lakshmi Puja will be observed for two days at various places as the ‘logno’ (timing) of the puja started from 7 pm this evening which will continue till tomorrow evening.
The devotees prayed the goddess of wealth with small bundle of paddy stalks, sugarcane and other fruits to get the blessings for wealth and food in their homes for the whole year ahead. Devotees also brought the replicas of goddess Lakshmi and photographs of the goddess to celebrate the puja at their homes. It is believed that, in the night of Lashmi puja, Goddess Lakshmi use to visit every home to give her blessings and if she finds the home in darkness, she goes back without showering her blessings. Therefore, the devotees use to lighten up their homes for the whole night during the puja and the females of the homes don’t leave their house empty during this special night. The female members usually read the ‘Lakshmi Chorit’ throughout the night to appease the Goddess.
