LDMA decries some bodies framing locals as foreigners

GUWAHATI, Dec 6: The Left-Democratic Manch, Assam (LDMA) has came down heavily on three organizations – Probojon Birodhi Mancha (PBM), Dakshin-Paschim Mangaldai Gowal Sanstha (DPMGS) and the Sangrami Satirtha Sanmilan (SSS) – for framing people, who have been living on a sar near Sipajhar for decades, as illegal Bangladeshis purely based on suspicion.

The LDMA is a conglomerate of eleven political parties – CPI, CPI-M, CPI(ML), Asom Sangrami Mancha, NCP, Samajwadi Party, Jata Dal (S), AAP, AIFB, LDP and RCPI.

LDMA office-bearers said: “We did visit the sar on December 3 and had the NRC documents of the settlers checked. We found their documents are genuine. When asked as to why the three organizations are out to frame them as Bangladeshis, they said they were not aware of the organizations’ motive. We only know that without ming any organizations leaflets have been circulated in the area framing us as Bangladeshis. The leaflets provoke the local people there to take the law on their own hands. Around 60,000 people have been living in this sar. The government should take tough action against those who want to frame minority people as illegal Bangladeshis. We are surprised as to why the Darrang District Administration hasn’t taken any action against those who have been circulating such leaflets. If the three organizations can prove any of the settlers on the sar as Bangladeshis, we ourselves will take steps with the administration for their expulsion.”
