Local stunners hog limelight on SAG cycle track on NH-37

DIMORIA, Feb 8: The 12th South Asian Games (SAG) has generated a sense of sportsmanship among the youth in Assam, those of Guwahati and its suburbs in particular. As though, the Games has induced an atmosphere of sportsmanship in the State with the co-hosting of the Games by Guwahati.

People are happy to see players and athletes here are there in and around Guwahati. Dimorians are an elated lot. And they reasons to sway in the atmosphere for sports that has gripped the young ones in the area, populated mostly by tribals, considered as pockets of sports talents. While the stretch on NH-37 from Chakanibari under Khetri police station to Dhopguri is being used for bicycle race, Kho kho and handball are held at Tepesia Indoor Stadium at Sopur. Cyclists from Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are a source of inspiration for the local lads and lasses who want to do something on their own as they do not have to facilities to train themselves as cyclists.

A few local boys did something different at Dimoria today. Using the track meant for the cycle race of the SAG on NH-37, the youths from Guwahati did some bicycle stunts and kept the local people enthralled. They daredevil stunts pulled a large number of visitors from the Dimoria area.

When asked on what they did in front of the viewers, a few of the boys said: “We’ve learnt these just by watching television. We don’t have any formal training for such stunts. If we get the right training under right coaches, we can also become cycle stunners.”
