Lull before AGP general council meet mysterious!

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 20: It seems that the last Assembly election in Assam has paved the way for the change in president in all the three mainstream political parties in Assam. With the Congress ming Ripun Bora as their new president after the demise of Anjan Dutta, the Congress and the AGP seem to have lined up for bringing in such changes.

While BJP’s in-charge president Santanu Bharali is set to be replaced with a new face, probably after the bye-poll results, the AGP in all likelihood is also going to form its central committee in the general council conference of the party slated to be held in Guwahati on November 27. Hectic parleys and rat race were very common in the run-up to every general council conference of the AGP earlier, now a coalition partner of the BJP at Dispur. However, this year such hectic activities are mysteriously missing. What does such a lull indicate?

According to reports available with The Sentinel, present AGP president Atul Bora is going to vie for the post of party president again, so is working president Keshab Mahanta. Both Bora and Mahanta are members in the Cabinet of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal. The picture is not yet clear who else in the party are going to vie for the post of president. In the event of Bora and Mahanta retaining their respective posts in the party they are holding now, the house may ask them to pick up candidates for other posts in the party. The prospects of such a possibility loom large are talks are getting a shape in the party towards that end.
