Madhava Mathematics  competition on January 7

GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Assam Academy of Mathematics (AAM) is going to hold Madhava Mathematics Competition, a tionwide competition held annually for undergraduate mathematics students, on January 7, 2018 in four centres in Assam. The centres are Guwahati, Tezpur, Dibrugarh and Silchar.

med after 14th century mathematician Madhava, the competition is organized jointly by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai and SP College, Pune, and is partially funded by the tiol Board for Higher Mathematics. Apart from prizes and medals, each student is given certificate of participation. Moreover, a number of students selected through the competition are given training in nurture camps with representations from various regions. Last year, the top five students from the centres in Assam received awards from the Assam Academy of Mathematics in its Annual Congress. Two students were selected for training at tiol level and twenty students drawn from the participating colleges were given a ten-day training during July 2017 at IIT Guwahati.

Centre coorditors for the four centres in Assam are Dr. Ankur Bharali (Dibrugarh University), Dr. Ashish Paul (Cotton University, Guwahati), Dr. Uday Shankar Chakraborty (Assam University, Silchar) and Dr. Dhiren Kumar Basnet (Tezpur University).
