Mahanta raises Sangeet tak Akademi office shifting in House

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 11: Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today told the State Assembly that due to negligence on the party of Dispur, the zol of the Sangeet tak Akademi would be shifted to Agartala.

Raising the issue in the House during the Zero Hour today, Mahanta said: “The zol office of the akademi was shifted to Guwahati from Shillong in 2011. Since then the Akademi has its office in a rented building in the city. The staff of the office requested the Assam Government and the Kamrup district administration for a plot of land so as to erect its permanent building, but to no avail. They later contacted the Tripura Government that agreed to provide a plot of land for the office. Now the process is underway for the shifting of the office to Agartala.”

“We appeal to the state government to take up the issue with Sangeet tak Akademi and the Tripura Government so as to keep the office in Guwahati,” Mahanta added.

In her reply, Cultural Affairs Minister Bismita Gogoi said: “The State Government has no records of any communication from the staff of the zol office of Sangeet tak  Akademi to it seeking land. If they seek a plot of land, we have no problem to give it.”

The Speaker then intervened and said that the State Government should take up the matter with the Sangeet tak Akademi and the Tripura Government.
