Mahila Congress protests over wine shop timing

GUWAHATI, Mar 6: The Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee under the leadership of president Shahz Yasmin Haque today staged a protest in front of wine and beverage shop at Ulubari area of the city against the government move of opening of the wine shops all over Assam as well as in Guwahati city area from 11.00 am, throughout the week. Haque said that during the Congress rule in Assam, the liquor shops opened from 2.00 pm to curb any untoward Incidents. “In one year there were 24 dry days now the State Government has reduced it to 4 days,” she said. Strongly opposing the move of the State Government to open the wine shops from 11 am, she said that this could create havoc during office time. She said that this also create problems in the sounding areas of the educatiol institutions this also leads to road accidents. She urged upon the State government to take steps for opening the wine shops from 2 pm instead of 11 am. More than 700 Mahila Congress workers took part in the protest.
