Make arrangements for Rabi crops, exempt farmers from loans: SAPPS

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, August 22: The Sadou Asom Pathar Parichala Samiti (SAPPS) has demanded of the State Agriculture Department for making all arrangements for Rabi crops so as to compensate the huge loss which the farmers of the State had to suffer in the recent devastating floods.

In its central executive meeting held on August 21, the Samiti also raised the demand exempting the flood-affected farmers from the KCC loans. The Samiti made it a point that agricultural appliances which the department supplies to the farmers should be of better quality. According to the Samiti, the power tillers that have been supplied to the farmers of the State are of poor quality, and the farmers are sceptical of such appliances.

The Samiti had its executive meeting at the conference hall of the Soil Testing Centre at Ulubari in the city. Prior to the executive meeting, a workshop was organized to enhance the ability of the farmers in a scientific way. The workshop was conducted by department’s gaon extension training centre officer in-charge Bhaskar Tamuli, senior agriculture extension officer Ranjan Deka and others.
