GUWAHATI, Jan 6: The city committee of All Assam Unyan Parishad (AAUP) burnt the effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday for her statement against NRC update in Assam. AAUP president Nomal Bora and general secretary Bhaskarjyoti Pamegam said that NRC update is going on under the supervision of the Supreme Court by taking March 25, 1971 as the cut-off date. In such a backdrop, the statement made by the West Bengal Chief Minister is baseless, and it can only lead to commul clashes in the State, that said, asked Banerjee to stay away from making such comments.
