Saraswati Puja peaceful in city

GUWAHATI, Jan 22: Decked-up idols of God- dess Saraswati along with thousands of girls attired in their best worshipping the Goddess gave Guwahati a different look on Monday when city denizens were kept spellbound by the chanting of Saraswati Banda (prayer) and mantras.

Guwahati streets, schools and colleges, clubs and various other institutions looked like seas of humanity, especially of girls in their best, mostly traditiol. Chanting of mantra was heard almost everywhere in the city. Outside Saraswati Puja pandals, girls in their traditiol best were seen to crowd Nehru Park, Prasanti Uddyan, Shraddhanjali Kan, State Zoo, restaurants and other places accompanied by their boyfriends. This is the day when students get the chance to meet their friends, freely and frankly. 

Selfie shoot among boys and girls is another significant development that adds fun to Saraswati Puja in recent years. In fact, this is a new normal in society in any events where there are large gathering. In fact, selfie has occupied much time of any person in society these days.

Pushpanjali (paying floral homage to Goddess Saraswati with both palms put together) was paid to the Goddess amidst huge gathering in accompaniment of chanting of mantra at various Puja pandals in the morning in the city, and the afternoon is mostly spent for roaming and merrymaking with friends.

Huge gathering in the city at puja pandals, parks, roads and the like led to big traffic srls, mainly on RG Baruah Road, GNB Road and GS Road at Paltan Bazar, Panbazar, Gauhati Club, Chandmari, Ganeshguri etc., in the city.
