Massive beautification drive awaits Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Jan 22: Guwahati is up for being decked up in full regalia in the run-up to the Global Investment Summit in the city. Kamrup(M) DC M Angamuthu has asked all departments concerned to beautify Guwahati  to make it alluring to rest of India and abroad.

Presiding over a meeting on beautification of the city on Monday, Angamuthu urged all the officers of different departments/organizations under the Kamrup Metropolitan district to extend their cooperation for the beautification of Guwahati as delegates all over the world are visiting the city for the upcoming event. The meeting took a number of resolutions for execution of beautification works by the departments concerned. 

Cleaning, beautification of all the medians of tiol Highway landscaping, road furbishing from LGBI Airport to Jalukbari Rotary Point; beautification of Jalukbari intersection point; removal of garbage, silt, and other dumped materials from both sides of the tiol Highway; cleaning of the median, trimming and pruning of trees in the median of the tiol Highway; repairing and replacement of non-functiol streetlights from LGBI Airport to Khapara via Jalukbari; removal of unused electrical poles lying by the roadside; repairing and refurbishing of main carriage and repairing of the carriage way of service road, etc. by the department concerned.

The DC has also urged ATDC, GMDA and IWT to illumite and clean their respective parks and bank of the river with ormental lights. Trimming and pruning of trees from the river banks and both side of the tiol Highway and arterial roads; removal of uuthorized sigge, hoardings, banners, posters from the medians, footpaths etc; removal of all encroachments including footpath vendors from Zoo Road, GS Road, Ulubari, AT Road etc; removal of garbage silt, and other dumped materials from both sides of the major arterial roads in and around Guwahati are something spelt out by the DC to execute by the departments concerned.

The DC also asked the departments concerned for beautification and cleanliness of Chandmari Flyover, Khapara Flyover; removal of all uuthorized sigges, hoardings, banners, posters from the Nursery Point to KamakhyaDevalaya; proper illumition of streetlights from Kamakhya Devalaya to Bhubaneswari Temple; removal of all vendors, beggars from the footpaths and temple premises; removal of garbage silt, and other dumped materials from both sides of the footpaths; cleaning of all the bus stops/bus bays involving extra man power; maintence and cleanliness of the entire Airport Complex, including arrival and departure areas, approach road, parking areas etc

Places/ bridges listed by the DC for cleanliness, beautification and illumition are Old Saraighat Bridge, Kamakhya Railway Station, Guwahati Railway Station, all along the roadside boundary wall of  NF Railway Headquarters, Kamakhya Gate to Santipur point, Bharalumukh Railway Crossing and the approach road to the Guwahati Railway Station from RBI.

Other directives from the DC are beautification of all bank branches, illumition of all ATMs; cleanliness and ormental decoration of Dharapur Tiniali HDFC Bank, beautification, cleanliness and ormental decoration of Kamakhya gate point; beautification, cleanliness and ormental decoration of Kachari Ghat etc.

Guwahati Revenue Circle officer is to remove encroachment from Kamakhya hill and painting of the hill by Axis Bank and Bank of India. SBI is to clean and beautify the places around Assam Secretariat area.

The DC has also urged various agencies to take the responsibility of beautification and cleaning of various important places, temples and tourists spots in and around the city.
