Massive fire destroys insurance office, residence in city

GUWAHATI, Nov 26: In two separate incidents, fire caused huge damage to an insurance office and a residence in Goswami Service and Ulubari area of Guwahati respectively on Thursday. The first incident occurred at Goswami Service in the afternoon whereas the second fire broke out at a residence near Borthakur Mill in Ulubari.

It was 12.30 pm when suddenly a fire broke out at the regiol office of Star Union Dai Ichi Life Insurance at Goswami Service. The fire soon spread rapidly and gutted many important files including 2 laptops and 11 numbers of desktops. However, the eight employees who were present in the office at that time had a rrow escape. It has been learnt that short circuit led the massive fire. It took almost one hour for the fire fighters to douse the fire.

On the other hand, on Thursday evening following a LPG cylinder blast, a residence was gutted down in Borthakur Mill area of Ulubari on Thursday. No casualty has been reported.

It may be mentioned that, following the massive fire of Fancy Bazar New Market, the district administration strictly instructed all business establishment and offices of the city to ensure fire safety measures. However, the Goswami Service incident has sparked a question, as are the establishments following the instructions or is the district administration ensuring the same?
