Massive preparations for Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI, June 15: A massive preparation is underway for the Ambubachi Mela to be held from June 20 to 26 with the attachment of two ACS officers and deputation of as many as 35 other ACS officers to the office of the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner from June 18 to 26 for smooth holding of the mela.

The large number of ACS officers being involved in the Ambubachi Mela speaks volumes of importance which the new government at Dispur has attached to the Mela.

The Kamrup (M) district administration has already made plans for providing basic amenities to the pilgrims who are supposed to throng the Kamakhya Dham during the Ambubachi Mela. The district administration has also entrusted responsibilities to the ACS officers attached to it so as to ensure smooth holding of the mela. The administration has already identified the places for bhandaras to be set up during the mela and entrusted their responsibility to food inspectors and other officials of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies. The bhandaras that are supposed to supply food to the camps of pilgrims from June 20 to 26 and the voluntary organizations which are supposed to supply food are – the camp at Soram HS School playground to get food supply from Ma Kamakhya Than Bhaktamandal, Fancy Bazar Bolbom Seva Samiti and Marwari Yuva Mancha; the camp at Old Pandu Railway Station to get food from Shukreswar Baba Seva Samiti and Bhootth Vikash Samiti; the camp at Kamakhya Station to get food from Hanuman Dharmik Seva Samiti; harbari and Bongshi Bagan camps atop the Nilachal Hill will get food from Ma Kamakhya Seva Trust, Kamakhya Sevadham Samiti, Dispur Seva Samiti and Atal Chatra Seva Samiti.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (M) district administration has spell out some do and don’t guidelines for the distribution of safe food during the mela.
