Mataks reiterate ST status

GUWAHATI, March 14: The All Assam Matak Yuba-Chatra Sanmilan (AAMYCS) staged a dhar at Dispur Last Gate on Wednesday in support of its long-standing demand for ST status to the community. A statement issued to the press on Wednesday by Saimilan president David Chetia and general secretary Dharani Gohain said: “No government at Dispur and New Delhi did pay any heed to the demand for ST status to the Mataks and other demands. Taking that in view various Matak organizations, including Sadou Asom Matak Sanmilan, All Assam Matak Yuba-Chatra Sanmilan and Sadou Asom Matak Mahila Parishad are going to start a vigorous agitation in support of their demands.”
