Meet on Assamese tiol Song in city

GUWAHATI, Oct 17: A congregation on the history of the tiol Song of Assam under a project on study and research of the Assamese tiol Song and the tribal languages of Assam will be held at District Library auditorium in the city from October 27 to 28. “The tiol song of Assam – o’ mur apur desh...—  written by Laksmith Bezbaruah has generated awareness among the Assamese. This song runs in the veins of the masses in Assam. In the 13th Assam Chatra Sanmilan conference in October 1928 presided over by Tarun Ram Phukan the Assamese tiol Song was first sung,” project coorditor Lokth Adhikari said while talking to newsmen at Guwahati Press Club. “On May 23, 1910 Lakshmith Bezbaruah wrote the song while travelling by a train from Howrah to Puri. A conference will be held on the completion of 106 years of the tiol Song under the aegis of Tezpur Baan Theatre,” Adhikari added. Chief researcher Rajib Hari Kaushik, project president ren Hazarika and general secretary Sanjib Kumar Deka were also present at the press meet.
