Meet on social welfare schemes

GUWAHATI, Sept 2: A state-level conclave held in Guwahati today under State Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with UNICEF’s Assam offices, has sought an improved service delivery system in the State. Speaking on the occasion, Beda Prasad Gautam, Officer in Charge, UNICEF held of the view that children under 5 years of age amount to 15 per cent of the total population,3.12 crore, of the state – which amounts to 46.3 lakh. “And that 30 per cent of the children below the age group is underweight or suffering from malnutrition. Faster implementation of the schemes will be helpful for the needy,” he said. Emphasizing the speedy delivery of services Hemanta rzary, Principal Secretary, Social Welfare said: “Though the Social Welfare department is the department with highest number of schemes the government is working on faster implementation of schemes. On this purpose government has now two diversions, one for child welfare and another for Women welfare.”
