MG Road caves in, Fancy Bazar at stake

GUWAHATI, July 2: Fancy Bazar in Guwahati is at stake! MG Road that runs along the Brahmaputra has caved in, posing a threat to the road and the entire area. The road may collapse at any moment.

It is suspected is that rodents might have done the mischief. On the riverside of the guard wall of the road a large number of rodents’ holes are seen. Water from the river in spate might have got under the road through the holes, leading to its caving in.   

The State PWD was prompt to repair the very spot. Some filled sacs have been placed around the spot, not to allow vehicle drivers and others to go over it.     

The water level of the Brahmaputra is rising fast. With incessant rains since yesterday, the State is reeling under floods.
