Mid-day meal kitchen littered with droppings

From our correspondent

DIMORIA, July 21: The unsanitary condition of the kitchen and unhygienic drinking water provided to the students of Tamulkuchi Primary School of Jorabat, Dispur has evoked sharp reactions from the local residents and parents.

It has been alleged that the mid-day meal for the students is cooked in an unkempt manner by the school authority. Besides, the students are also consuming contamited water at the school.

Goats and other domestic animals are seen hovering around the kitchen and their droppings litter the school kitchen. This, beyond the shadow of doubt, proves that the cooking environment is tremendously unhygienic.   Tamulkuchi Primary School of Jorabat was established in 1947.  A few years back, though the State Government has initiated the rain water harvesting programme, it is yet to get implemented.  Coming down heavily on the Sonowal-led government, a local resident said: “The Gunotsav programme conceived by the government to uplift the standard of schools is pointless unless these problems are addressed at the earliest. We want that the government takes this issue seriously and initiate steps so that the kitchen is operated in a hygienic condition and fresh drinking water is supplied to students. The health factor of students is paramount and cannot be ignored.”
