GUWAHATI, April 7: The Krishak Sramik Unyan Parishad (KSUP) has alleged that the State Irrigation Minister, the subdivisiol engineer of the department and contractors have swindled crores of rupees meant for AIVP schemes in the state.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, KSUP president Pradip Kalita said: “As many as 139 AIVP irrigation schemes have been shown to have been implemented in Assam from 2008 to 2014, but only in papers. None of these schemes is supplying a drop of water. The crores of rupees meant for the schemes have been swindled by the minister, subdivisiol engineer and contractors. The situation is the worst in districts like gaon, Morigaon, Udalguri, Mangaldai, Dhemaji etc. The situation demands a CBI inquiry into the matter.”

Kalita said that the Parishad would soon lodge FIRs against the minister, the engineer and contractors involved in the swindling of funds. Meanwhile, Kalita demanded an inquiry into the mysterious death of 14 labourers of Assam at Ladrymbai in Meghalaya yesterday. He demanded both the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya to order an inquiry into the incident that could be murder in cold blood.
