Minister puts stress on timely completion of works

GUWAHATI, January 29: The newly inducted Chandan Sarkar took charge as the Minister of the State Irrigation and Soil Conservation Department on Thursday.

After taking charge, Sarkar told reporters that all the officials of the Department concerned were told that there should be no laxity in its (Department) work.

He said that delay in schemes and programmes related file clearance would not be tolerated at any cost.

Sarkar said that works of all schemes/programmes undertaken by his Department would be completed in a time–bound manner. “All works of the ongoing schemes/programmes will be completed before the 2016 Assembly elections in the State.”

The new State Irrigation and Soil Conservation Department Minister further said, “I have told the officials to prepare an action plan so that all works undertaken by the Department should be completed in a time–bound manner,” adding, “The present culture of keeping the works pending till March end should be abolished.”

He stated that the Department officials were asked to submit the utilization certificates timely to the Central government. “I am strictly against contractors’ raj in the department.”  Sarkar said that he would submit his performance report to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi within the next 90 days. He also proposed that a vigilance committee should be set up in each of the LACs having an MLA as its chairman so that the committee can keep tab on the ongoing development works undertaken in the respective district.
