Minister talks tough on repair of embankments

GUWAHATI, April 28: State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahta has asked the contractors of the department to complete repair of embankments by April 30. “If any fault is detected in the repair of embankments, inquiries will be conducted,” he told the contractors.

April 30 is the second deadline set by the department for the completion of repair of embankments. Earlier the deadline was March 31, 2017 which had to be revised as the contractors failed to complete their works.

The minister is tough on the order as the some areas of the State – Barak Valley and Lakhimpur – have already experienced their first waves of floods due to pre-monsoon rains. If more such waves of floods come, embankment repair works will be impossible.
