GUWAHATI, March 13: How safe are women in Assam and in the trains bound for the State? There is yet another example that exposes the vulnerability of the fairer sex in the State and in trains running through it.

A girl was travelling by Up North-East Express yesterday. She was bound for Assam University at Silchar. When the train slowed down just before reaching Guwahati Railway Station in the wee hours today, she was ready with her luggage to get down. The train was at Railway Gate No. 2. Four youths were standing their, and one of them stched her luggage all of a sudden taking the advantage of the slow speed of the train. The girl lost her balance and fell down, and the four youths soon decamped taking the luggage with them.

The girl, hailing from Jharkhand, made no delay to let Pupa duty of Panbazar police station know of the incident.

Following information, GRP personnel on duty acted promptly and caught one of the four youths. He has been identified as sir Ali. The girl has also identified the youth. The other three youths have, however, been absconding. A case (44/2017) has been registered in this regard with the GRP.
