GUWAHATI, Nov 23: First star of Assamese cinema Biju Phukan was given adieu misty-eyed by his fans and admirers when his mortal remains were cremated at bagraha Crematorium in Guwahati on Thursday.

After paying tributes to the body of the cine star over the night at his Panjabari residence in Guwahati, the body was first taken to Assam Film and Fince Development Corporation, Jyoti Chitraban, Rabindra Bhawan and office of the AASU before taking it to bagraha Crematorium. On way to Rabindra Bhawan, leaders of the AGP paid tributes to the star. The funeral was completed with State honours.

Meanwhile, leaders of the AASU paid tribute to the departed cine star at their office at Uzan Bazar in the city where the body was taken. The students’ body paid its last respect to the star by shrouding his body with the AASU flag.

AASU president Dipanko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the death of the first cine star of the State is an irreparable loss to the cultural world in Assam. They said that the students’ body feels the pain of losing one of its responsible guardians. He did stand with the AASU to pull crowds whenever the State was in crisis. They said that Bijuda was a real star of the mass – remaining in the hearts of people, regardless of generations. Though he is no more, he will continue to remain in the hearts of the AASU leaders, they said.
