MLA moves CM for skill-honing setup

GUWAHATI, May 28: BJP’s Sorbhog MLA Ranjit Kumar Das has moved Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal with three demands – the setting up of a directorate of skill development centre in the State, bringing back Brindabani Bastra to the State from Victoria Memorial Museum in London and ban on the sale of toy guns in the State.

The MLA submitted three separate memoranda to the Chief Minister for as many demands, and said: “In consonce with Prime Minister rendra Modi’s skill India initiative we need to set up a separate department or a separate directorate for skill development so as to hone the skill of unemployed human resources in the State. This is a must if we’re really sincere enough to translate the dream of the Prime Minister into a reality.”

In another memorandum, the MLA said: “Bindabani Bastra is a unique creation of Srimanta Sankardeva. It’s a pride of Assam. The bastra has been kept protected in London. The people of Assam have a wish to see the bastra, and hence it should be brought back to the State, if need be, at least for a few days.”

Das further said toy guns have much to do in moulding child psychology. “What’s ingrained at an early age lasts longer and it has every reason to mislead a child. Taking this into account, we need to stop the sale of toy guns in the State,” he said. It is worth mentioning here that Das did raise all these three issues on the floor of the State Assembly in the tenure of Tarun Gogoi as the Chief Minister of the State.
