Model schools are injustice to vercular schools: AASU

GUWAHATI, Aug 12: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has termed the decision taken for the setting up of English Model School in the State is an injustice to all the Assamese and other vercular media schools in the State.  In statement issued to the press on Friday, AASU president Dipanka Kumar th and general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said: “The Assam Government can set up Model Schools, but only of Assamese and other vercular media. Also the government should teach English language to Assamese and vercular students so that students can write and speak English.”
They wrote a letter to the Chief Minister demanding deferment of the interview for teachers slated to be held on August 20 as the prescribed qualification for candidates was only English medium CBSE passed outs. The AASU also made it clear before the Chief Minister that candidates from vercular media should also be allowed to apply. In the letter the members had written that all the Assamese and vercular candidates should also be allowed to attend the interview.
