Modi and RSS out to distort history: Gogoi

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Jan 15: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has joined the tionwide debate on the replacement of Mahatma Gandhi’s photo in this year’s calendar and table diary of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) with that of Prime Minister rendra Modi.
In a statement issued to the press today, Gogoi condemned the move, and said that it is a blithe disregard to Father of the tion Mahatma Gandhi. “Gandhi is known the world over as the symbol of truth, secular mind set and nonviolence who sacrificed everything for the independence of India. On the other hand, Prime Minister rendra Modi is known for his politics of discrimition. The Godhra massacre took place in Gujarat when Modi was the Chief Minister of the State, and it was for that reason then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had asked him to stick to Rajdharma. Modi is inclined to the extreme Hindu fundamentalism of the RSS. It was such an ideology that led thuram to kill Mohatma Gandhi. Replacing the photo of Gandhi by Modi is nothing but idiocy and temerity,” Gogoi said. Gogoi said that Modi and the RSS were out to distort the history of the country. “At first they wrote against Jawharlal Nehru. Now they are out to remove Gandhiji, the soul of the tion. It’s well known that RSS, Ja Sangha and Hindu Mohasabha had no role in India’s struggle for independence. Rather they opposed the struggle. Their ideology is quite different from that of Gandhiji and the Congress. They talk of Hindutva, and are influenced by Hindu ideology. The Congress, on the other hand, is influenced by the ideology of Gandhiji’s nonviolence, tolerance and secularism. An RSS pracharak can never be a Gadhian. The RSS and Modi are out to distort the history of India,” Gogoi said.
