MoU for planting 1 million trees in State

GUWAHATI, August 23: As a mitigation measure pertaining to climate change, the Intended tiolly Determined Contribution (INDC-2030) of creating an additiol carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent through forest and tree cover by 2030, NTPC plans to create additiol sink by planting 10 million trees across the country in the next ten years i.e. by 2026. To fulfil this commitment a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for planting of one million trees in the State through the Forest Department during 2016-17 was signed on August 21, 2016 by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Assam, Darash Mathur, IFS and U Chakraborti, Group General Mager, of NTPC, Salakati.

This accelerated afforestation programme will be implemented in a 100 ha blocks of degraded forest patches in Lakhimpur, Cachar, Kamrup East and Aie Valley Forest Divisions, with funding from NTPC, including maintence cost for 5 years.
