Move to shift home guard office opposed

Guwahati, Sept 25: Expressing displeasure over the move to shift the office of the Commandant of Home Guard, Kamrup District from Shilpukhuri to Panikhaiti, the Assam Home Guard Welfare Association on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Kamrup Metro District Administration against the move.

The Assam Home Guard Welfare Association, an organization formed for the welfare of the home guards, opined that it would become cumbersome for the home guards to shift from Panikhaiti owing to its transportation cost and distance.

President of the Assam Home Guard Welfare Association, Sahabuddin Ahmed said: “With meagre earnings, the home guards will face sever difficulties in shifting from their homes to the places of work if the office gets shifted to Panikhaiti. Let alone the cost of transportation, even the distance will pose problems due to poor connectivity to Panikhaiti. ”
