MP Gaurav Gogoi begins online fundraising for flood victims

GUWAHATI, Aug 10: With the aim of providing relief to those affected by the recent wave of floods in the State, a fundraiser was started on Ketto (https://www.ketto.org/fundraiser/assamrelief2017) by an associate affiliated with Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi.

The campaign was started on July 15 and maged to raise Rs 2.6 lakhs. Social media had a huge role to play. MP Gogoi doted Rs. 25,000 for the cause. His tweets and facebook posts encouraged many others to come forward and support the fundraising campaign.

Many celebrities joined this cause and encouraged their fans and followers. Angaraag “Papon” Mahanta reached out to his 1 million Twittter followers. Popular Telegu actor Ram Charan supported the campaign which resulted in many of his fans contributing to the Assam floods. Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia also took to Twitter to raise awareness and garner support for the campaign. The Indian tiol Congress social media team in Delhi also pitched it with a fincial help and promoted the cause.

In all, over 195 people supported the online campaign. The total amount raised is Rs 2.44 lacs and this might rise to Rs 2.66 lacs. This money will now be utlised to buy mosquito nets, baby food, sanitary pads,bleaching powder, rice, dal, dettol soap . Additiolly 50 families will be supported with paddy saplings so that they may continue with their farming.

This aid will be distributed to people who have returned home from their relief camps and are no longer receiving government aid.
