GUWAHATI, Dec 4: The Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Public Cheritable Trust today conferred the 10th lifetime achievement awards, 2016 on actor-director Abdul Mazid, writer Nirupama Borgohain, musician Ramen Choudhury, actress Runu Devi Thakur and cine jourlist Arun Lochan Das at a function at ITA Pragjyoti Centre of Performing Arts, Machkhowa in the city. For the first time, literature has been included as a discipline in the conferment of the award this year.

This year the Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka lecture was delivered by Mumbai-based film critic Sudhir ndgaonkar on ‘Why Indian Cinema is Formula Ridden.’ Delivering the lecture, ndgaonkar said: “Though cinema is a science, Indian cine viewers receive it as a traditiol art, and which is why dance and songs, which became integral part of Indian cinema some 100 years back, are still considered integral. Though there have been changes in technology in the production of cinema in India, even today much of success story of Indian cinema depends on how good its dances and sings are.”

‘Ten Musings’, a collection of ten JRMD Goenka Annual Lectures, was also released on the occasion. The book was edited by Chandan Sarma and published by the Trust.

Each of the awards carries Rs 50,000 in cheque and a citation.

Maging trustee Shankar Lall Goenka thanked all for making the programme a success.
