GUWAHATI, May 28: Depali Deka, a mother of three, was killed in her rented house at barun gar near Kamakhya Gate in the city last night. Mystery shrouds the killing.

While the woman was staying at the rented house along with her daughter, her son and another daughter have been staying with her husband, Sajjan Mahato now staying at Sipajhar. The three-room house which the woman was staying is owned by a police constable, Anta Deka. While the owner stays in one of the three rooms, Deipali and her daughter were staying in the middle room. A businessman, Rejak Uddin from Barpeta, is staying in the third room.

Constable Deka seldom stays in his room as he has to stay outdoor on duty for most of the time. He was too busy during the Prime Minister’s visit to the State. After his duty on Friday, he went to his ancestral home outside Guwahati. While the daughter of Dipali Deka, Puja Mahato, went to gon on Friday last, Rejak had gone home in Barpeta on Thursday for Ramadan. Dipali was alone in the house on Friday and Saturday nights when miscreants killed her. The murder was unearthed only last night when Rejack Uddin came back to his room. He missed no time to inform the police of the murder.

Along with police, sleuths from the CID rushed to the spot by taking a dog squad along with them. They collected materials like a blood-stained machete that may give them vital clues to the killing, from the spot. The sniffer dogs led the investigators up to a spot where the killers were believed to have had drinks. The dogs failed to lead the police any farther.

Meanwhile, the police detained Rejak Uddin for interrogation. Rajak told the police that he had been staying at the house for around five years as good neighbours with Dipali. Rejak, who is running an egg business at Adabari, told the police that the woman had given him Rs 3.84 lakh for business.
