NDRF conducts mock drill on school safety

GUWAHATI, Nov 2: The 1st Battalion of tiol Disaster Response Force conducted a mock drill and exhibition on 'School Safety' at Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya, Noonmati here on Thursday.

Leading from the front, NDRF 1ST Battalion Assistant Commandant Shudhir Kumar Dwivedi along with six sub-ordite officers and 35 rescuers of the battalion conducted the mock drill at the school in which total 1653 people including 1500 students, 80 teaching staff, 25 non teaching staff, 38 SDRF personnel, 10 SDMA personnel participated.

The NDRF personnel performed a presentation too on School safety, disaster in general, drop cover & hold method during earthquake related disaster, they gave demo on basic life support, bleeding control, taught emergency moves and improvised rescue aids, filly conducted the School evacuation drill by all participants.

According to a statement released by NDRF, the organisation reminded the people of northeast that it intends to make the region safe from all types of disasters. Though, because of its terrain northeast is the proverbial epicentre of tural calamities, NDRF, Guwahati remains as the vanguard during such situations.    

The statement emphasised that the loss of life and damage to property due to disaster can be reduced by sensitizing local population. And since recent events of children deaths due to building collapse, fire accident and stampede bring to light the need to be continually vigilant to ensure safety of students and staffs in the schools of our country, that's one of the prime reasons why NDRF conducted the mock drill in Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya. The 1st Battalion, tiol Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is providing disaster response in the North-eastern States and also helping in capacity building by giving training to State Police & SDRF personnel, NCC Cadets, School children etc. Mock exercise on school safety will be very helpful for students & staffs of schools in getting prepared for disaster situations. The statement added.
