NE centre of Indian Institute of Packaging to come up at Amingaon

GUWAHATI, March 27:  The Union Commerce Ministry had directed the Indian Institute of Packaging to open the North East center at Guwahati. The matter was conceptualized about 15 years back and somehow it got delayed and now.
The Institute today announced that the Government of Assam has allotted 6 Bighas land at Dag No. 7, Village Sila Grant, Sila Sinduri Ghopa Mouza, Amingaon, near IIT Guwahati, Kamrup district for opening the North East Centre of IIP.
In this context, the Institute organized an “Industry Interaction Meet on Packaging” today. The main objective of this interaction meet was to make an announcement about the setting up of the North East Center of IIP at Guwahati and also to make the local industries understand the importance of packaging of consumer goods.
The Institute has also planned to open the center initially at a rental premises in the city of Guwahati till a new building of the Institute is constructed at the allotted land. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry India has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 5 crore under 12th Five Year Plan for the construction of the building. Initially, the institute will focus to organise short term training programmes on packaging to attract the youth of Northeast region.
