GUWAHATI, Aug 21: The North East Film & TV Producers &d Directors’ Forum on Monday reiterated its demand for the formulation of a regiol cinema policy.
The forum has laid emphasis on the immediate formulation of the policy for the revival of Assamese cinema. The forum comprises creative talents from the film and television fraternity of the Northeast.
In addition, the forum feels that for the revival of regiol films around 100 mini cinema halls are need of the hour in the region. “Dispur should take tangible steps to make that really happen,” said Forum president Sunil Rajkonwar while addressing the press at Guwahati Press Club on Monday. Rajkonwar further said that the constructions of mini cinema halls across the northeastern region were the need of the hour for the preservation and promotion of regiol cinema.
“We demand regiol films’ exemption of the State share of GST,” Rajkonwar said, and added: “Dispur should also send a proposal to the Centre to exempt regiol cinemas of the Central share of GST.”
The Forum demanded to the Central and State governments for the launch of the proposed channel – As-Me (24x7).
