NE juvenile justice needs to be strengthened: Vaiphei

GUWAHATI, Dec 12: “After understanding the peculiar situations in the Northeast, all important stakeholders, government and non-government organizations need to come together and strengthen Juvenile Justice System,” said Gauhati High Court (GHC) Chief Justice (acting) T Vaiphei at the iugural programme of  Regiol Consultation on Child Rights and Protection Issues of North Eastern Region organized by Assam State Legal Services Authority (ASLSA) in the city today. Vaiphei has also pointed out the crucial issues of children of North East such as child labour, child trafficking, substance abuse, child marriage, special need for children, and children affected or infected by HIV and others in the programme. The programme was also collaborated by Assam State Commission for Protection for Child Rights and Child Rights Initiative of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN). “The objective of the consultation was to deliberate on various issues of child rights and protection of North Eastern Region and prepare a Joint Plan of Action by ensuring participation of key stakeholders,” added state coorditor of HRLN Debashmita Ghosh in her welcome address.
