NE stars dote blankets to homeless

GUWAHATI, DEC 24: The 'Stars of North East' (SoNE) undertook a blanket distribution project targeting the homeless and poor of Guwahati. The project began on the night of Friday and ended at the wee hours of Saturday. The SoNE team comprising ten member-volunteers braved the chill and ventured out on the streets of the city, starting from Bhootth, and proceeding farther to Sukleshwar Ghat, Athgaon Kabarsthan, Fancy Bazaar slums, Lakhtokia, Guwahati Club, Bhangagarh (GMC area), G S Road up to Six Mile Flyover distributing blankets to destitute and homeless of the city with the hope that it would surely warm up many of the have-nots.

The programme was a brainchild of Salma Hussain, a leading human rights worker of the State.

It may be mentioned here that SoNE was established in September 2014 for unearthing, mentoring, and showcasing talents spread in the nooks and corners of the North East. The organisation felicitated over 20 such talented youths, including fisa Sadiq, intertiol medal winner in rowing; Kismat Bano, recipient of Sangeet tak Akademi scholarship; Neida Khurshid, 'Teach for India' scholar; and Dr Ferdous Ahmed Barbhuiya, Associate Professor of IIIT Guwahati.
