NECCC to hold meet in Guwahati

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 18: A delegation of the North East Congress Coordition Committee (NECCC), led by NECCC chairman DD Lapang, called on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the latter’s residence in Guwahati recently and dwelt at length on issues relating to strengtheing the Congress in the Northeast. Lapang also raised the issue of solution to the vexed Assam-Meghalaya border disputes.

Besides apprising Gogoi of AICC president Aonia Gandhi laying stress on strengthening the Congress in the Northeast, Lapang informed Googi of the NECCC’s decision to hold its meeting in Guwahati soon so as to revamp the NECCC.

On his part, Gogoi assured Lapang of all cooperation and said that joint efforts by all Congress chief ministers of the Northeast would help boost the party in the region. Lapang, according to sources, also handed over the new list of NECCC office-bearers to Gogoi in the presence of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta and Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president Pradyut Manikya Deb Barman.

The meeting also pledged full faith and confidence in the honesty, sincerity, integrity and patriotism of  former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, widely acclaimed for his high integrity and clean image both in India and abroad. The meeting was worried over, what it said, dragging Dr. Singh into an uncalled for controversy causing persol harassment, which appears to be politically motivated. The meeting also expressed appreciation and gratitude to  Sonia Gandhi for her assured support to Dr. Singh in this hour of crisis and expressed confidence that the truth would prevail.

Meanwhile, Lapang also submitted a letter, on behalf of NECCC, to Gogoi urging him to use his good offices, to settle the vexed ‘inter-State boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya’ for the satisfaction of all stakeholders. Gogoi agreed to look into the matter with cooperation of other chief ministers of the neighbouring states.
