New Logo of Assam Tourism 'Awesome Assam' unveiled

GUWAHATI, Sept 4: State Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today formally launched a new Logo of Assam Tourism and the punch line ‘Awesome Assam’ at Raddisson Blue, Guwahati.

After unveiling the ‘Awesome Assam’ Logo, the minister said that tourism publicity should not be confined alone within the State, but should be visible outside of the State. He said that there is no sustain advertisement of Brand Assam which has numerous potential to become a tourist destition. “As such the Government is taking all steps to further promote ‘Awesome Assam’ in the coming days. The Government is also taking steps to develop the Tourism sector as an Industry. As a part of this, reflecting the One-Horn Rhino, Assam Tea and Mighty Brahmaputra, a new Logo with a punch line has been initiated,” he said. The minister further said that to promote the publicity of the tourism sector, the Government has allocated Rs 15 crore only for its publicity. He also mentioned that some young foreigners are keen to visit the State in order to visit the places like the tea gardens which were a workplace of their fore fathers and other relatives. He also said that 500 to 700 houses will be constructed in some areas of the district so that tourist can stay and relish the local dishes. Aggressive publicity will be given so that Film producers will be eager to shoot films in the region. As such a single-window clearance for permission to shoot films will be initiated. Referring to Kamakhya and Majuli, he stated that there is a huge potentiality to attract tiol tourist in these places. He further stated that for development of infrastructure of Kamakhya, Rs. 33 crore has been sanctioned. Under ‘Swadesh Darshan’ Scheme, the Government of India has also allocated Rs 120 crore for 5 tiol parks of the state. Similarly, ONGC, OIL, NHPC, HUDCO have also shown interest to offer money under CSR. He also said that the tourism sector would be developed through partnership with the people of Assam. He said that in order to develop the tourism sector, any ideas or plans could be sent to the concern department, the Minister said.

The programme was attended by Additiol Chief Secretary of Tourism Department VS Bhaskar, Secretary of Tourism Department Lalit Gogoi, Tourism Department Director Palash Baruah and MD ATDC Anurag Singh.
