New start up policy in Assam on cards

Guwahati, May 11: In view of the Central government’s Startup India programme, a high level interactive meeting between the department of Industries and Commerce and Invest India was held at Udyog Bhawan, Bamunimaidam here on Thursday.

Invest India is a tiol investment promotion and facilitation agency, department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The meeting was conducted by Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Dr KK Dwivedi to formulate and outline a Startup policy for the State.

Various stakeholders like entrepreneurs, representatives from Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), institutions like IIT, Guwahati, Assam Don Bosco University, Assam Institute of Magement, Tocklai Tea Research Institute, officials from MSME, FICCI etc. were present in the meeting.

The meeting discussed the opportunities, challenges of accessibility and infrastructure of startup initiatives in Assam with a focus on agri-sector and state-owned incubation centres.

Dr Dwivedi informed that an MoU would be signed very soon to set up a Startup Innovation Centre, a centre of excellence in the State, which would provide training, mentoring, handholding support to the startup companies in partnerships with research institutions and MNCs.
