GUWAHATI, Dec 11: College students of Assam are set to leave for intertiol borders in the New Year as they get to know intertiol borders Assam shares with the neighbouring countries. Following a directive from the Union Home Ministry, Dispur took a scheme – Simanta Gyan Ahoron Asoni – a student tour on exchange of knowledge /skills from urban areas to border villages under border areas development programme (BADP). The main objective of the Border Protection and Development Department is to meet the special needs of people living in remote and iccessible areas situated along intertiol borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan.  The tour is being organized by the Border Protection and Development Department, in collaboration with the Education Department of Assam.  For this tour Rs 1.40 crore has been released from BADP’s 2016-17 budget allocation. In phase 1, 800 students from 18 colleges of Guwahati are going to the tour from January 2 to 10, 2018 to 28 blocks in eight border districts of the State.  The blocks are Kalain and Katogirah in Cachar district; North Karimganj, South Karimganj, Badarpur, Lowarpoa and Patharkandi in Kamrimganj district; Agomoni, Birsing Jharua, Gauripur, Golokganj and Rupshi in Dhubri district;  Fekamari, Mankachar and South Salmara in South Salmara-Mankachar district; Baksa, Dhamdhama, Gobardho, Jalah, Tamulpur and grijuli in Baksa district; Sidli-Chirang and Barabazar in Chirang district; Kachugaon, Kokrajhar and Dotoma in Kokrajhar district; and Behargaon and Udalguri in Udalguri district.
